We have been all told, if we’re cold to go put on a jumper and I for one at least have had this ethos drummed into me throughout my life, having lived in a house with no central heating for the early part of my life, a fact most gen Zers could hardly imagine even possible this was a life style that meant wearing adequate clothes and only expending the heat energy in certain areas of the house is something I grew up with. Obviously your location can impact how your house is heated but being off the beaten tract mean’t the adoption of gas was low in my village and now with the current energy prices and increasing trend to move away from gas
Many of you will probably be aware of the science behind using clothes to keep warm but the basics are the same as that of our body hair, the fur on animals, the feathers on birds and even wet suits, its all about trapping layers of air (or water) that is then warmed up by the body and trapped there giving us that warming feeling. Wearing multiple layers which can include thermal underwear but not exclusively takes this to another level, you then get multiple layers all retaining air which is warmed and creates a barrier between your asking and the cold outside air.
Thermal underwear
Hooded Blanket
Jumpers
Thick House Socks
Handy Tip:- sitting around all day without moving can quickly lead to you getting that chilly feeling which multiple layers and even turning the heating up can fail to sort. One way around this is to start the day with exercise, it doesn’t necessarily need to be a full on marathon or gym session but getting the body moving and the blood pumping before sitting down and being still all day means you start with plenty of body heat that is pumped around the body with a good blood flow. This doesn’t cost you a penny and in fact is more likely to save you a few whilst also improving your fitness and helping reduce the carbon being released into the environment by reducing the fossil fuels being burnt to heat you home.
